Did you know First Page exists for over 30 years? The restaurant-bar has been a household name in The Hague for years. After a period of four years, in which the bar was closed, the new owner Marcel saw his chance and renovated and reopened the new First Page. A little less bar, a little more restaurant. But; the classic dishes that you could order here years ago are still on the menu!
And did you know that we have a terrace where you can sit in the sun until late in the evening? We invite everybody to enjoy this lovely sunny spot! Are you planning a day of shopping at the Frederik Hendriklaan, a visit to the Gemeentemuseum or are you attending an event at the World Forum? We are happy to provide a delicious meal and a cold beer afterwards!
Let us introduce...
Behind First Page stands a close and enthusiastic team, that we’d love to introduce. Let's start with Marcel, the owner of First Page. Marcel has been familiar with First Page for a long time and even used to work on the opposite side of the street. Before he became the owner of First Page, he studied at The Hague Hotel School, was a waiter at Blue Lagoon and owned the Happy Days restaurant.
When Marcel got the opportunity to buy the - then closed - First Page, he was immediately enthusiastic. Since then, over three years have passed. "Everything had to be refurbished, we gave it a completely new look. But the name has remained, in consultation with the previous owner. First Page has been a household name for 30 years and we are proud of that!"
Chef Duncan has been working at First Page since the reopening. He’s been a chef for more than 27 years. Fun fact: he worked in the same neighbourhood for years, among others at The Old Jazz and Café Buijs. Nowadays you can find him at First Page four days a week.
Duncan works hard to keep our guests happy. He regularly comes over to the table to have a chat. "I like to hear from our guests about their preferences and what they would love to eat in the future." He also likes experimenting. "I love fusion; combining cuisines from all over the world." Duncan welcomes everyone at First Page, but: "If you can’t stand the heat, don’t come into my kitchen!"
Fun fact: when Niels took a girl out for dinner for the first time in his life, they went to First Page! Who would have thought he would be the one taking the orders a couple years later? After the success of a private wine bar and jobs in several fancy restaurants, Niels was looking for something else last year. "Something informal, but still of high quality. That is what I found at First Page. It’s exactly how I would do it myself."
You can find Niels behind the bar or at your table four to five days a week. Always with a big smile, because he loves his job. "All people behind FiPa are very relaxed and we really work together as a team. That is quite unique in the hospitality/restaurant industry. I also find the contact with our guests very pleasant. I especially feel a bond with our regular guests!"
This is Wesley, our ‘pub cat’. Don’t be fooled by her name; Wesley is a female cat! Wesley goes wherever she wants, except in the kitchen and the restaurant section. You will often see her walking around the bar.
That is her favorite spot (which we understand, of course). Or she is somewhere near Marcel, because those two are very close. And don’t worry, Wesley's presence in First Page has even been approved by the inspection!
